eSIM QR codes don't stay valid forever. Here's how the 365-day activation window works and what to do if your code has expired.
Why your eSIM QR code expired (and what to do about it)

Unlike a physical SIM card, an eSIM QR code doesn't stay valid forever. With SpeedySim you have 365 days from purchase to activate your eSIM, which is plenty of time for most trips, but a code left unused beyond that window will expire. If yours has, contact support with your order number and we can check its status and reissue it where applicable.

How long is an eSIM QR code valid?

There are two separate windows, and mixing them up causes most of the confusion:

  • Activation window: You have 365 days from purchase to activate your eSIM. Until then, your QR code stays valid and ready to use.
  • Plan validity: Each data plan has its own duration, shown on the plan you bought (7, 15 or 30 days on most plans). This clock only starts when you first use data in a covered country, not before.

What's the difference between installing and activating?

Installing an eSIM (scanning the code) and activating its data plan are two separate steps. You can install the eSIM profile well before your trip without starting the plan's validity clock. The plan only starts counting down once you first use data in a covered country.

Installing early is a good habit: everything is set up and tested before you board, and it costs you nothing.

What to do if your code has expired

  1. Check your order confirmation. Your plan's details and validity are listed there.
  2. Contact support. If the code won't install, contact support with your order number and we can check the code's status and reissue it where applicable.
  3. Install early next time. Install the eSIM as soon as you receive it rather than waiting until departure day. Installing doesn't start your plan's clock.
